Year 12

Posted January 30th, 2015 by

So today marks the first real day of year 12 for me, and it’s been good so far… That might just be because I only have three classes today though; Tuesday is going to be a busy day – seven periods of class immediately followed by 1.5 hours of string ensemble – at least I don’t have weird gaps in the day. Luckily on Wednesday I only have two classes and can then go home.

This year I’ve got five subjects: English, Algorithmics, Phyiscs, Chemistry and Specialist Maths. I have pretty good teachers for those subjects, so that’s good for me. It should hopefully be a good year.

While doing five subjects means I have free periods (or ‘study’ periods, as they call it), I only have one of them where I’ll actually be at school, since the others are placed nicely so I don’t have to show up. Incidentally, that one study period I have is the one I’m using to write this. Maybe this means I’ll write a post every week? No, I don’t think it does, but perhaps a little more frequently than just once or twice per month.

That’s all for now. More blogging to come at a later date.

2015

Posted January 16th, 2015 by

So I haven’t posted anything since last month – and by extension last year, as it is now 2015, which promises to be my final year of high school. VCE swimming pool analogies, I’m ready for you now.

I haven’t done a whole lot in in the holidays, which are quickly diminishing – no music things or tutorial installments as yet, but as I keep saying, I’ll get to that eventually… I think.

Oh, and just so you know, I managed to achieve Year 11 Dux for 2014, entitling me to a $50 reduction in my year 12 textbook costs – hooray for me. Hopefully I’ll be able to maintain my standards this year.

On another note, I’ve been doing a lot of programming lately, which has been consuming a lot of my time. I’ve been experimenting with Rust, which is a very interesting language indeed. I like it – I like it a lot. In fact, with all this programming, you’ll find most of my activity here on GitHub where I host most of my programming projects.

That’s all for now. More blogging to come at a later date.

Methods Results

Posted December 15th, 2014 by

So today, unit 3 & 4 subject results came out, and it appears I got a 46 for Mathematical Methods (CAS). That’s pretty good, although to be honest, I was expecting slightly higher – maybe my working out for the exams wasn’t stringent enough – who knows.

On another note, I’ve finally had to return that trophy I got for the Chang Maths Award to the school (who should really consider cleaning it). I wonder who’s going to win it this year. It looks like I’m getting a couple of awards this Presentation Night, although I’m not really sure what ‘Special Academic Award’ means – hopefully something good.

Also, being a Music Captain is pretty fun. We had a meeting with all the music leaders last Thursday, and that went pretty well. Hopefully 2015 will be a good year in the music department.

Web Development Tutorial Part 5 – CSS

Posted November 15th, 2014 by

So having completed Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4 of this series of web development tutorials, we’re finally able to actually construct a webpage. Now I said that we’d look at CSS in this tutorial, and we will, but first off let’s build a basic webpage that we can use to experiment with later.

Maths Methods Exam 2

Posted November 6th, 2014 by

And so concludes my 2014 unit 3 & 4 VCE exams. Exam 2 was reasonably easy, although I probably made some stupid mistakes – I most likely got something around 78/80, but we’ll see eventually.

There wasn’t anything particularly difficult in this exam. I thought it was easier than last year’s exam 2, but some of the multiple choice needed a bit of thinking. This did have some different questions that hadn’t been seen in an exam for a while, and Tasmania Jones’s question was rather lack-luster in my opinion – he didn’t even have to escape a vat of acid or anything, all he did was observe an ice-block for 21 years.

But that’s the exam, and now all my assessment for Mathematical Methods is complete. All I have to deal with now is a bunch of unit 1 & 2 exams. Shouldn’t be too hard, except maybe the GMA exam which will no doubt be more difficult than the exam I just did today.

That’s all for now, more blogging to come at a later date.
