Music Camp

Posted March 29th, 2015 by

So it’s been quite some time since I’ve blogged about anything – I neglected to post for the entire month of February and the majority of March, but that’s because things have been pretty busy lately.

Year 12 isn’t bad, but it is a lot of work, and being Music Captain means some more work on top of that. From Wednesday to Friday I was on Strings Music Camp, the last camp I’ll be attending this year. It was a lot of fun, despite being very similar to every other music camp I’ve been on in the past.

That’s probably because music is so much fun, and that there are no VCE seminars or bush walks to go through. The music captains on camp have to run the trivia night and challenge night that have been part of the camp since what seems like forever, and happily, it was a great success.

There have also been SACs and stuff lately, but that’s boring. More blogging to come at a later date.

Music Camp

So I’ve now returned from a three day strings music camp. It was a lot of fun, although quite tiring once you’ve been rehearsing for more than a couple of hours. We had a good guest conductor, who used to go to GWSC as well. We played three pieces: Allegro from Sinfonia No. 6 in G Minor by J. C. Bach, Orientale (Op. 15, No. 2) by Alexander Glazunov and four of the Romanian Folk Dances by Béla Bartók. We’re going to be playing these pieces for the VSMF later in the year, which is the reason behind us going to this camp.

We also had a trivia night and challenge, in which we had to answer music related questions (the trivia) and perform a recreation of a famous movie scene (the challenge). It was an interesting experience, and my group came 5th, which is not a bad effort at all.
